OPIRG-Carleton invites you to the Annual General Meeting

  • When: Tuesday, April 9th beginning at 5:30pm
  • Where: Room 182 of the University Centre at Carleton University

Come join us for some good food and learn more about OPIRG and Working Group activities throughout the year, including a short presentation of OPIRG’s financial statements and bursary recipients.

Participate in the election of OPIRG’s incoming Board of Directors! All members have voting rights.

After the AGM, OPIRG be holding a volunteers appreciation gathering at Mike’s Place where our excellent volunteers will have a chance to win some great prizes.

OPIRG-Carleton 2012-2013 Budget

OPIRG-Carleton's budget is approved in August/September by the organization's Board of Directors. The audited financial statements are presented at the Annual General Meeting (April 9, 2013). Both are available in the office by appointment during the school year. However, due to a high number of recent requests, OPIRG-Carleton is happy to make available its 2012-2013 Operating Budget which was approved in September, 2012 by its Board of Directors.

OPIRG Carleton's response statement to member of the Board of Governors racist comments

Last week Zane Colt, Carleton’s undergraduate representative on the board of governors, used his public Twitter account to make a racist comment directed towards Arab students on campus, specifically Palestinians. Mr. Colt expressed his “frustration” with seeing numerous students wearing the keffiyeh, a traditional Arab headdress which is often worn to express solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for liberation.

As a campus organization with an expressed mandate of challenging all forms of oppression including racism, OPIRG-Carleton strongly denounces Mr. Colt’s comments. These words would be abhorrent coming from any student; however, they are all the more egregious given the fact that they were made by a student representative in a position of power who claims to represent all undergraduate students. Not only do Mr. Colt’s hateful words clearly indicate that he fails to represent all of Carleton’s students, but worse show us that he cannot respect their diverse backgrounds and political views. As such, the only suitable response would be for Mr. Colt to immediately resign from his position as undergraduate representative. If he does not resign, OPIRG-Carleton calls on the Board of Governors to relieve Mr. Colt of his responsibilities.

OPIRG-Carleton reaffirms not only its commitment to building a safe(r) campus free of racism and other oppressive attitudes, but also its commitment to supporting the Palestinian people in their struggle against Israeli colonialism and occupation.

OPIRG-Carleton Opt-Out Period 2013 (Jan 14 - 18)

OPIRG Opt out poster 2If you wish to ask for a refund of your OPIRG Carleton student levy, we would like you to consider the organization in a broad way, recognizing the diversity in our programming, working groups, and events. For students who still object to campus based social justice action, research, and education, we will hold an OPIRG Carleton student levy opt-out period from: Monday, January 14 to Friday, January 18, 2013

10AM to 4PM

If you wish to seek a refund visit our office (RM 326 University Centre), and bring your student ID, proof of enrollment showing your student status and proof of fee payment for Fall 2012 and Winter 2013. Printouts of your timetable and student accounts are available on Carleton Connect. We regret that our office is not wheelchair accessible, but please contact us at (613) 520-2757 if this is an issue, so we can make other arrangements.
