At the beginning of 2021 OPIRG Carleton decided to try something new. In order to signal boost requests for mutual aid and to ensure that these requests don't disappear from our stories after 24 hours we began making posts once a week on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for community financial and mutual aid requests.

We encourage all of our followers to participate in the ongoing act of community re-distribution and to reflect on ways that you can sustainably budget for reparations and wealth re-distribution. If you do not have money to give to these funds please still engage with these posts. Share them widely, comment on them, and send them to folks who have expressed a desire to participate in mutual aid. Please let us know if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or suggestions.

If you have a request that you want us to share you can send us the link using our Instagram direct messages or send an email to us. Given that most of our audience is located in "Canada" we will only be posting mutual aid requests that have the payment option for PayPal, e-transfers, and/or GoFundMe’s.

However, OPIRG - Carleton is not a mutual aid page or organization, and unfortunately we cannot commit to contributing to all of the funds that are sent to us. This initiative is a way of balancing our commitment to community care and social justice with our wider mandates of programming, advocacy, political action, outreach, and research. We encourage you to follow and support other accounts and organizations exclusively dedicated to mutual aid across Turtle Island including: Indigenous Mutual Aid and Ottawa Mutual Aid and Action.
